The Friday Five, 4/4/24: 5 things I've been up to this week

March went by super fast, I'm not sure how it's already April. This week was moderately busy, and the weekend will be very busy, as I'm going to a friend's birthday get-together tomorrow, and then meeting other friends for dinner on Sunday night.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Touring Ford House. I had never been to Ford House before, but I did a blog post for them a few months back in exchange for tour tickets ($20 each, normally), and my husband and I went to check it out on Sunday. The grounds ended up being very beautiful—if you're a member there, you can walk them whenever you want, and even bring your dog—and they had a shuttle to bring you from the main residence, to the garage area (five classic cars!), back to the Visitors Center, so that was super useful too. I highly recommend checking it out sometime—from me, it was a little bit of a hike (Grosse Pointe, MI, so about a 40-minute drive) but was worth it. The home is where Edsel and Eleanor Ford lived with their children, and Eleanor lived there until her death in 1976 (and supposedly left $1 billion—in *1976 dollars*—for the upkeep). It opened to the public in 1978. They also do high tea and other events there, I saw on Instagram you can take engagement photos there too.
  2. Getting our wedding rings cleaned. Our jeweler is in Royal Oak, and their policy is that the rings are insured—meaning if any small stones fall out, they can replace them for free—IF you drop by every six months to get them cleaned. It has been about seven months at this point since we got married (we got them cleaned right before that) so we headed there on Saturday for that, and got dinner in Royal Oak after, too (see below).
  3. Getting takeout/going out to eat. On Friday, I worked in-office, and stopped by my condo after to check on it, and also get us Noori takeout, a delicious Korean fried chicken place in Clawson (they also have Noori Pocha, which I have yet to try, which is a sit-down Korean gastropub). On Saturday night, we went to HopCat for my favorite grilled cheese (see pic above), after getting our rings cleaned, and on Sunday night, the weather was supposed to be bad, so I skipped seeing my parents, and we got Sidecar Slider Bar via Doordash.
  4. Seeing movies. We watched Holland, on Prime, last Friday night, and it was definitely a weird movie—I wanted to see it since I'm so familiar with the area (Holland is where we got married last September, too!), but overall I'd give it 2.5/5 stars. If you do watch it, keep an eye out for the Zingerman's and Zehnder's references, though!
On Wednesday, I went to see Black Bag, at the theater, and I'd give that one 3.5/5 stars—it's classic Steven Soderbergh (the director), for the most part, but a bit slow from me, hence the half-star deduction.
And finally, yesterday I watched Back in Action, on Netflix, with Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, and that one was a lot of fun—I'd give it 4/5 stars, even though it only has about 26% on Rotten Tomatoes right now (but, 60% audience score). They leave the ending open for a sequel, too, so I hope they make one.
  5. House repairs. I used Yelp to find us a repairman—there was something we needed to take care of that happened back in 2019 or so, before I had even met my husband. The repairman came down Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to work, each day for a few hours, and the area that needed repairing looks a lot better now than it did previously.
