The Friday Five, 10/4/24: 5 things I've been up to this week

This week went by fast, for some reason. This weekend I have to go to Meijer, because next weekend is the *most fun* one of the year (being sarcastic here) ... colonoscopy prep, in which I can't have food for 2.5 days, basically (just liquids).

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Getting takeout/going out to eat. Last Friday, we got Pink Garlic takeout, which is my favorite Indian restaurant in this area. On Sunday, my husband and I went to see my parents, and we got Hungry Howie's takeout. On Monday, I was hoping to resume going back to the gym—I wasn't able to go right before the wedding much, because of all the last-minute things to do—but unfortunately the light fixture in the kitchen decided to malfunction, so we spent an hour or so fixing it, then decided to call it a day and get Doordash from Sidecar Slider Bar. On Wednesday, my mom and I went to Panera before seeing a show at the Fisher (more on that below), and yesterday, a friend gave me a Shake Shack T-Mobile code, a local special, for a free burger with purchase, so I got a ShackBurger plus their (new-ish, I think LTO) truffle fries, which were fabulous—I had those once before, I think it might be a seasonal or LTO (limited-time offer) thing.
  2. Seeing Some Like It Hot at the Fisher. On Wednesday, my mom and I drove down to Detroit to see Some Like It Hot. I've seen the movie, with Marilyn Monroe, but a long time ago, and the show was a lot of fun; the singing and dancing were great. It's playing at the Fisher until Oct. 13, and you can read more about it at my post here.
  3. Seeing movies. Last week, I saw Am I Racist? at the theater, which wasn't entirely to my liking but the movie was done well; I'd probably give it 2.5-3 stars out of 5. Last night, I saw Joker: Folie a Deux at the theater, and overall liked it, although it could have been shorter—I'd give it 3.5/5 stars, but it had fabulous performances by Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. You can see my IG reel review here. I also started Will and Harper, on Netflix, which so far I am liking, but I need to finish that up this week. I'm seeing My Old Ass, which is a weird title but looks funny, with Aubrey Plaza, tonight at the theater, as well. I'll unfortunately probably be canceling my A-List membership around Oct. 20, because the theater by where I now live is AMC Livonia and is not my favorite (no recliners, etc., compared to AMC John R), but I hope to go to Emagine Novi weekly, for the $5 Tuesday movies, or perhaps sign up for the Farmington Theater membership.
  4. Watching TV shows. Netflix dropped the first six episodes of the new season of Love is Blind, so that is what I was binging yesterday. My husband and I finished The Circle on Wednesday, and I was pleased with the winner. I also finished Industry, on Max, which had kind of a bizarre ending, and I've been watching Agatha All Along (Disney+) and Bad Monkey (AppleTV) too. No new episode of High Potential this week it seems, which was disappointing, and no new Matlock (CBS/Paramount+) for a week or two also.
  5. Still trying to change my name places. Chase actually had the most bizarre process—I messaged them online, they SNAIL MAILED me a piece of paper that said what documents I had to send to them (I think it was marriage license + copy of my new license), and then I was able to submit those online. They said they accepted my paperwork, so hopefully that'll come soon. My new license apparently arrived yesterday so that took about two weeks, and my new SSA card arrived this week too. I've been trying to apply for a new credit card, also—it's one for a hotel chain, and then I can status-match to another hotel chain I like—but I made the mistake of applying the day before I went to the SSA office, so they kinda/sorta rejected it (they said they need paperwork), and I finally have the paperwork for that, so I will have to mail that in to them.
  6. New cat beds from ALDI. Bonus 6th one here, as I forgot to talk about this—I'm in a few unofficial ALDI "Aisle of Shame" (aka their aisle with non-food products, such as housewares) Facebook groups and I saw someone posted a pic of a pumpkin house for a cat. I checked the ALDI near me and they had it, which was awesome; however, our two cats refuse to go in it, lol. They also have some plush flat cat beds, and I got one of those too, and our girl cat really likes that one ... but no one likes the pumpkin, haha, although our boy cat has poked his head in a few times to investigate it. Hoping to lure them into it with treats or something soon.
