The Friday Five, 9/6/24: 5 things I've been up to this week

Wedding countdown is officially on: we are getting married in 9 days (on Sun. 9/15) and this week have been working on finalizing things with the venue, DJ, desserts, and other details. I don't think I will fully believe it until we are in the car driving to Holland a week from today! It's crazy how we have been planning this for a year already, for the most part.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Picking up our marriage license. Last Friday, we headed to the Oakland County building in Troy, and it wasn't exactly how I expected—first off, they have probation offices there too, so when you arrive it feels like the airport, as in you have to take off belts, anything metal, etc. Then we were directed to the marriage license area, and it was all very clinical; fill out paperwork, pay a $20 fee, etc. No "congrats on your marriage" or "good luck" or anything like that. I will be back a week from this Wed. to file our marriage license—normally your officiant would do that, but I need it faster than that since I have an infusion on 9/21, and want to be on my fiance's health insurance by then.
  2. Going out to eat/getting takeout and delivery. Last Friday we went to Sedona Taphouse in Troy for their happy hour, after getting our marriage license—they do $5 flatbreads, which is a pretty good deal, and half-off cans and bottles of beer/cider, plus half-off bottles to-go. On Saturday, I got Hungry Howie's takeout with my parents, and on Monday, I think it was, we got Doordash from Big Dip Burgers (ironically, next to my parents' place), which was good; that was our first time ordering from there. Yesterday, I was working at the office, so I got Sidecar Slider Bar takeout, which is always delicious; my go-to order is the fried chicken slider (hold the hot sauce; add extra maple syrup), the 2am slider (hold the ketchup), and cheese curds.
  3. Watching movies. I watched Didi this week on my Movies Anywhere account (click here for that review plus a giveaway), and saw two movies at the theater: Blink Twice, which really surprised me, and which I'd give 4.5/5, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, yesterday, which I'd give 3.5/5. I was never a huge fan of the original Beetlejuice, but I rewatched it yesterday on Max after seeing the sequel, and I'd probably give it 3/5 stars.
  4. Watching TV shows. Only Murders in the Building is back on Hulu, and that is a show I watch with my parents, so we watched the first episode last week. I've still been watching Bad Monkey on AppleTV+, and my nighttime show is Superstore, which is a rewatch for me but which has been fun. My fiance and I have still been watching Sunny, on AppleTV, although we are not caught up on this week's yet, and we started the last season of The Umbrella Academy, on Netflix, which is always fun. I also want to start The Perfect Couple, on Netflix, maybe today, and there's a new Selling Sunset season up today too, also on Netflix, I believe.
  5. Losing internet. Our internet went out around 3pm on Tuesday, which was a problem because I was home and needed to work. It got fixed at like 4pm on Wednesday. During that time, I was able to get some stuff done, though: for our wedding favors, we are doing candy (TY to one of my candy contacts for sending us like TWELVE huge boxes of candy to use!) in "His favorite," "Her favorite," and "Our favorite" bags (bags with those stickers on them) so I started that project; I think I am about 70 or 80 bags in. I am hoping to finish the rest this weekend.
