The Friday Five, 8/2/24: 5 things I've been up to this week

How is it August already? That's crazy. We went to Holland this past weekend for my hair/makeup trial for the wedding, and then did engagement photos right after (had to put the hair/makeup to use!). We just got the link to them yesterday, and since I rarely put pictures of myself on here, I'll include one of my portraits below. :)

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Trip to Holland. A quick weekend trip, and oddly enough, one of the few times we did not dine at what will be our wedding venue; we had other places to go to, and we'll be there in September! Friday was my hair/makeup trial at the salon where my bridesmaids and I will be doing hair/makeup on the day of, and then we met our official wedding photographer for the first time and she took the lovely photo above, as well as like 400+ (!) others, which she sent to us yesterday. We did have some time to dine at some of my favorites places though—more on that below.
  2. Eating out. On Friday, we both worked a half day, so we ate a quick lunch at home and then got on the road to Holland. We had a Panda Express "snack" in between my salon trial and pictures—I had to eat orange chicken VERY carefully, with a fork/knife, so I didn't mess up my lipstick—and then we did a very late New Holland Brewery dinner around 10pm that night. On Saturday, we finally tried out Seventy-Six, in Holland, where we will be having our rehearsal lunch the day before the wedding, and then had dinner at a Mexican place in Grand Haven. On Sunday, we went to The Southerner, in Saugatuck, one of my favorite places, for lunch. We also went to Odd Side Ales in Grand Haven, which is a fun way to spend a few hours.
  3. Adventures. Grand Haven is another of my favorite places, and I got to stop by the Purple Rose Boutique for a hot minute (another place I liked, unfortunately we rolled up at 4:50pm and they closed at 5pm), plus we went to the GH State Park/beach, which is where we got engaged last September (by the lighthouse area). It was Coast Guard Festival week too, which I didn't know, and there was a Queen cover band, which we got to hear a little bit of.
  4. Seeing movies. I saw the new Deadpool yesterday, and to prepare, I binge-watched the first two—I had seen both when they came out, but that was 2016 and 2018, which feels like 10 years ago due to COVID. Oddly enough, you can stream them both on Disney+ (I believe most Hulu content is on Disney+ now, so that's why). I stand by my reviews for the first two: 4/5 for the original, and 3.5/5 for the 2nd one. For the newest one ... I don't know how to rate it. It was a lot of fun, but the max I can give it is 3.5/5, I think. I was a little disappointed because everyone had talked up how good it was, and it was definitely an entertaining movie, with a lot of cool action sequences, but IMO none of them live up to the first one.
  5. Watching TV shows. I finished up Presumed Innocent last week, and the finale was a doozy. Too Hot to Handle is back today, so I'll probably try to watch an episode or two today, and I started Time Bandits on AppleTV, which has been fun; Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe from Friends) is in it and it's based off a 1981 movie, I believe. I also finished Me, on AppleTV, which was good, and I'd like to start Women in Blue, on AppleTV, but I didn't realize it's in Spanish, which means I'll actually have to watch it, lol (vs. "listening" to it in the background).
