The Friday Five, 7/26/24: 5 things I've been up to this week

We are headed to Holland this weekend for my hair/makeup trial today and then engagement pictures (yes, again, haha; this time with our actual wedding day photographer).

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Dining out/getting takeout. On Saturday, I had my Crohn's infusion, so I stopped at the combined Kung Fu Tea/TKK Chicken in Southfield after, for takeout, which was delicious although took a while for some reason. On Sunday, my parents and I had Hungry Howie's takeout, and on Tuesday, I stopped by the new Portillo's, in Livonia, since I was there for a movie (I love Portillo's!). On Wednesday, I went to Detroit with a friend (more on that below) and we got to try out Basan, which was excellent, albeit a bit pricey—most of the dishes are small plates so it's tapas/shareable-style. I know they do a happy hour, though, but I am not sure if it's bar-only or in the dining room too. Yesterday, I was in Ann Arbor (more on that below too) and had lunch with a friend at Frita Batidos, one of my favorites (love their garlic fries!). Also, my fiance and I wanted a quick dinner last night, so we did delivery from Sidecar Slider Bar.
  2. Postmodern Jukebox at the Fillmore. This was my first time at the Fillmore, on Wednesday night, to see Postmodern Jukebox, whom I had been following for a while on YouTube but never seen in concert. They take modern songs and slow them down a bit/make them a little jazz-like, and it's very cool, so I enjoyed the concert. Some of my favorite songs they did were "Radioactive," "Love Story" (Taylor Swift), and a Spice Girls song.
  3. The Accidentals at Sonic Lunch, Ann Arbor. I almost did not make it to this—I left around 10:15am to meet my friend there at 11:15, and I noticed something was making odd noises. I pulled over right before getting on 696 and one of my tires looked flat, so I went backwards to Belle Tire. It turned out the rim had some corrosion on it—I had this problem before, this year, too, but on a different tire—and Belle Tire said it was going to take a few hours. Thankfully, my fiance picked me up there and let me use his car, so I pulled up in Ann Arbor around 12:15pm and was still able to see half the concert. The Accidentals is one of my favorite bands so I would've been a bit bummed if I had missed it ... I also took a full day of work off to see them.
  4. Seeing movies. I saw Thelma on Tuesday at AMC Livonia—fun fact, in June Squibb's 70+ year acting career, this was actually her first feature role. It was a slice of life "caper," if that's a genre, and it was actually pretty good; I would give it 4/5 stars.
  5. Watching TV shows. I binged Unprisoned on Hulu and it was fun, although there's a big twist at the end of the last episode, so I hope it gets renewed. I also finished Presumed Innocent, on AppleTV, which ALSO has a twist at the end of the last episode, so that was interesting; that's a miniseries though, I believe, and based on a book, so it will not have a second season. I also started the new season of Too Hot to Handle (Netflix) and Lady in the Lake (AppleTV), which is Natalie Portman's first TV role, and both were really good.
