The Friday Five, 7/16/21: 5 things I've been up to this week

This week has been busy and I also haven't been getting enough sleep, so as a result I have been tired every day. The weekend is also shaping up to be busy.

Van Gogh Immersive Exhibit, Detroit
Van Gogh Immersive Exhibit, Detroit

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Immersive Van Gogh exhibit in Detroit. On Saturday, my mom and I went to the TCF Center in Detroit (aka Cobo Hall, before they renamed it) to see the immersive Van Gogh exhibit. My mom had just read a book about Van Gogh and she was able to tell me a little about him; in addition, the first room of the exhibit has info about his life. The exhibit was smaller than I thought but the last room (pictured above) was VERY cool—it literally brought all of his paintings to life. The exhibit has just been extended through October, and you can find out more about it here.
  2. Seeing movies in the theater. Last Friday a friend and I saw Black Widow in Dolby at the AMC Forum! It was pretty good—I'd probably give it 4.5/5 stars. On Tuesday, my boyfriend and I attended a screening of Space Jam: A New Legacy at MJR Troy, and I would give that maybe 3.5/5 stars, although the reviews I've read so far haven't been so great. That's probably the last screening I will go to for a while, because I intend on renewing my AMC A-List membership when it expires on Sunday, and also it was 100% full and only about 10% were wearing masks, including myself. And this Sunday, my boyfriend and I plan to go see Pig at AMC John R, which is Nicolas Cage's newest movie.
  3. Going out to eat. Before the movie on Friday, my friend and I went to UNOs, which was tasty—pro tip, they are doing a deal right now where you get a free individual pizza if you sign up for their new e-club on their website, so that's what I did. On Saturday, my parents and I got Jersey Mike's takeout here in Troy, after the Van Gogh exhibit, and on Sunday I met up with some friends at Ale Mary's in Royal Oak; Sunday night, my boyfriend and I finally got to go to La Saj, since they close early now. Tuesday night my boyfriend and I got El Guanaco (Troy) before the movie, and Wed. night I got free cheesy bread from Green Lantern—they always seem to be sending me free cheesy bread coupons via email, which is fun.
  4. Watching new and old TV shows. So I wasn't expecting to do this, but Never Have I Ever season two came out yesterday on Netflix, and I definitely binged it all in one day ... and now I want more! So good. I also binged Atypical when it came out last week, but over a few days, and I've been watching the newest Virgin River season too; both are on Netflix. Grownish is back on Hulu/Freeform as of last week, and I've also been continuing to watch Gossip Girl, on HBO Max, and Why Women Kill, on Paramount+. I started watching Genera+ion (Generation) on HBO Max and I like that a lot as well. On Sunday I tried out The White Lotus on HBO Max and the first episode was pretty intriguing, so I'll continue to watch.
  5. Cooking. I feel like I write about eating out and cooking every week, but oh well. Last week I had EveryPlate and this week I have EveryPlate as well—I made a tasty peanut chicken bowl last night for dinner, I'm definitely going to try to recreate the peanut sauce at some point because it was delicious. I think it had peanut butter, sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, salt, and a few other ingredients in it.
