The Friday Five, 10/11/19: 5 things I've been up to this week
From Monday through Wednesday this week, I was just outside of Austin, Texas, for the Texas Pecan Board trip for work. Although I didn't get to see downtown Austin, we stayed at a super nice resort (Hyatt Regency Lost Pines) and I was able to see pecan production from start to finish, which was pretty interesting.
What I've been up to this week:
What I've been up to this week:
- Traveling. I was in Austin from Monday to Wednesday, although my flight home on Wednesday was a bit late (6pm) so I had to hang out in the airport for a while. I ate a LOT of pecan-based foods, all of which were delicious, and I had never been to that part of Texas ... thankfully the weather cooperated, and it was like 75-85 which was nice. I brought home some honey glazed pecans too, and am looking forward to eating those.
- Eating out. Last Friday, my international dinner club and I went to Polka, in Troy, to try out some Polish food. The food itself was good but the service was super slow, so I'll probably go back at some point but not hurry back. On Saturday, two friends and I tried out the new Frita Batidos, in Detroit, which is just as good as their Ann Arbor location (one of my favorites), and on Sunday, my mom and I went to the Melting Pot, just for chocolate fondue, since I had a gift certificate that was expiring.
- Seeing Sara Bareilles in concert. I saw her concert at the Fox Theatre last Saturday, after Frita Batidos, and she put on a great show. She's one of my favorite singers - I saw her in Waitress in NYC this past January, and also at the Royal Oak Music Theatre, way back in 2010, when she was opening for OneRepublic! She's come a long way since then, and she has such a beautiful voice.
- Seeing one movie. The only movie I saw this week was Joker, but wow, is it worth seeing ... I'd give it like 4.5/5 stars. Joaquin Phoenix is phenomenal in the title role, but it's uncomfortable to watch at times ... it's a good study on mental illness, and how the world can shape people into who they are, too. I'm seeing Jexi tonight, which I think will either be hilarious or really dumb (though I love Adam Devine), and Gemini Man tomorrow; I'm also hoping to see Judy next week because I have a feeling that AMC John R will pull it sooner rather than later, since it's more of an indie movie.
- Not feeling great. I weigh myself every Friday, and the number today was one I had been wanting to see for a long time (ie, it started with a "1" rather than a "2"). However, I don't feel victorious about it because I've been feeling sick this week. So hopefully that part will start to change soon.
