Last week, I was able to check out Punch Bowl Social (Detroit), which was a lot of fun - I had not been before but had heard a lot about it. Punch Bowl Social is a restaurant but also has arcade games, darts, bowling, and even a private karaoke room.

The interior has a modern feel and is very nice. We were seated at a high-top area designed to seat large groups, and the table had a reclaimed wood type of feel. There are 2+ bars, as well, and lots of booths and other high-top tables.

We had some kettle chips and drinks (more on that later!) and were taken on a tour of the restaurant. The restaurant is quite large and even on a Tuesday night, it was hopping - there were a few events that had reserved parts of the restaurant, and others were bowling and playing darts and pinball.

We tried the Bachelor's Bowl (bourbon and Pimms) and also "You Must Bring Us ... A Shrubbery." I tried and liked both but the Shrubbery drink was a bit sweeter - it had watermelon and vodka in it, vs. bourbon in the Bachelor's Bowl.

We were treated to a ton of entrees, including the chicken and waffles (pic above). My favorites were that, the cilantro wings, and the mushrooms, but everything was fantastic, even down to the cheese and bread board.

The sweet cilantro wings were in fact rather addicting (and that was actually the first entree that our group polished off, I believe) and the cauliflower nachos were something I had not tried before, and were also very good. I'm also a big mushrooms fan so I loved the stuffed criminis, too.

I split a piece of carrot cake for dessert with a blogger friend - carrot cake is not usually my favorite, but this one was good. A few other friends tried the cheesecake and also the chocolate cake, and those were delicious as well.

After our dinner, a few of us tried out the bowling area, which was fun as well - you can choose to play in increments of 5 frames or 10 (10 is standard), and they have shoes available to rent too. Personally I'd love to come back with a group of friends for the restaurant's private karaoke room; I did that in Ann Arbor once, and it was a lot of fun.

I also liked that you could reserve other parts of the restaurant if you had a large group or party - a few Detroit companies had reserved these that night, and it looked like a comfortable place to sit and hang out.

Punch Bowl Social is located at 1331 Broadway St, Detroit. Visit them online; they can also be reached via (313) 749-9738.
