Restaurant Review and GIVEAWAY: Granite City at the Renaissance Center, Detroit {ends 2/15}

I'm no stranger to Granite City - I attended the Northville, MI location's soft opening last year, and I live pretty much down the road from the Troy location. So when I received an invite to the new Detroit location's soft opening, I definitely was excited to attend.

The new Granite City is Michigan's largest, of the three, and it's over 15,000 square feet, so when I first walked in, I was in awe of the restaurant's size. The restaurant has not one but TWO bars, one of which will have an outdoor patio in the summer, and when you first arrive, you walk down a long hallway to the seating areas, which makes the restaurant seem even bigger.

I attended the soft opening for lunch this past Saturday with my boyfriend, who is also a Granite City fan - we usually go to the Troy location's late-night happy hour for their pizzas and sometimes their spinach dip. For this occasion, because it was a "mock service," we were allowed to choose off a limited menu and were encouraged to each choose a different entree.

I had the grilled chicken linguine with artichokes, sundried tomatoes, prosciutto, basil, and fennel, and it was delicious. I've been to my local Granite City a few times for meals (rather than just happy hour) but had never tried this before, and I'd definitely order it again.

My boyfriend ordered the salad with grilled salmon, and he said that the salmon was cooked perfectly. Our server also came around with beer samples for us to try, which paired well with each of our meals; I'm not a huge beer fan, but I really liked one of the two (the other was a bit too strong for me).

Dessert wasn't included with the mock service, but we HAD to order GCB's cookie pie, a la mode - it's one of my favorite desserts ever. It's a very thin cookie pie with chocolate chips and I believe some sort of nut (walnuts, perhaps), and it's delicious.

For those of you who DO like beer, each Granite City location makes its own beer on-site, although the fermenting is started off-site (you can read more about that here). The Detroit Granite City location also has a lot of other Michigan-made beverages on tap, I've noticed, such as Blake's hard cider, which was a nice touch.

The restaurant is officially open to the public this Wednesday, February 10th, and "The 48243" beer will be tapped that day as well (48243 is the RenCen's zip code!). Make sure to check out the restaurant - you won't be disappointed!

Granite City is located at 100 Renaissance Center (RenCen, building 100), Suite 1101, Detroit, MI 48243, and can be reached at (313) 309-9120 or at gcfb.com.
