I'm a huge fan of the Despicable Me franchise, from Illumination Entertainment, and I was excited when Minions, its newest film, came to theaters. It's now out on Blu-ray and DVD, and my family and I had a movie night to watch Minions, complete with a yummy movie-related snack.

I checked out the Minions website first, to see what stores nearby had the film, and there were a few stores in my area that had it. The movie was released on Blu-ray and DVD combo pack on 12/8, so I headed out after work that day to buy the Blu-ray.

One of the minions in the film wears a grass skirt and a coconut bra, and I thought it would be fun to do a tropical-themed Minions night. My mom and I like to make smoothies together, so I headed to my parents' house for the movie night (I need to buy a blender at some point, still ...) and to make the recipe. I bought some coconut cups a few days prior for the occasion, too.

Whenever I stay at my parents' house, usually during the holiday time, I have a smoothie for breakfast - so we decided to take that recipe and improve upon it by making it a bit more tropical.

We then settled in to watch Minions © 2015 Universal Studios (All rights reserved). We had seen the movie in the theater but it had been a while. What's fun about the Blu-ray is that you get three Minions mini movies which did not air in the theaters, so I definitely wanted to watch those first.

My dad and I really liked the first two mini movies, which had the minions in them; the third one didn't have any minions, for some reason, but was still funny.

Minions-inspired Tropical Smoothie

1.5 cups organic vanilla soy milk
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup frozen cherries
1 cup frozen pineapple
1 tablespoon wheat germ
1 tablespoon flax seed

*Recipe feeds 3-4 people.

1. Combine ingredients in blender.
2. Blend for 4-5 minutes, depending - for us, it took longer to blend the cherries and pineapple since we added them into the blender last.
3. Serve chilled.
