I'm about 32 years late on this, but I watched Flashdance on DVD for the first time the other day, and it was good - the music, especially.

So I'm excited to announce that Flashdance - The Musical will make its Detroit premiere next month at the Fisher Theatre, Detroit!

 DETROIT, December 5, 2014 – FLASHDANCE – THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will perform at Detroit’s Fisher Theatre on March 10 – 22, 2015. Tickets will go on sale Sunday, December 7 at all Ticketmaster locations, by phone at 1-800-982-2787, online at www.broadwayindetroit.com or www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the Fisher Theatre box office starting on Monday, December 8.

Joining Karli Dinardo as Alex Owens and Adam J. Rennie as Nick Hurley are Brianna-Marie Bell as Kiki, Heidi Friese as Gloria, Danielle Marie Gonzalez as Tess, Patricia Bartlett as Hannah, Randy Charleville as C.C., Michael Kingston as Harry and Jacob Tischler as Jimmy.

With electrifying dance at its core, FLASHDANCE – THE MUSICAL tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh steel mill welder by day and a bar dancer by night with dreams of one day becoming a professional performer. When romance with her steel mill boss threatens to complicate her ambitions, Alex learns the meaning of love and its power to fuel the pursuit of her dream.

The original Paramount Pictures film was a worldwide smash hit that became a pop culture phenomenon, grossing over $150 million and featuring a Grammy Award-winning soundtrack. FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL features a score including the hit songs from the movie, all of which became Top Ten hits on the radio around the world, including the Academy Award-winning title song “Flashdance – What a Feeling,” “Maniac,” “Gloria,” “Manhunt,” and “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll.” In addition to these hits, 16 brand new songs have been written for the stage with music by Robbie Roth and lyrics by Robert Cary and Roth.

FLASHDANCE premiered in Pittsburgh, PA on January 3, 2013 and has played over 40 cities across North America. The Atlanta Journal Constitution hailed it “an astonishing musical spectacle,” while Michigan Live dubbed FLASHDANCE “A super-sexy blockbuster!”

Performance times for FLASHDANCE – THE MUSICAL appearing March 10 - 22, 2015 at the Fisher Theatre, located at 3011 W. Grand Blvd. in Detroit, are:
  • Tuesday through Saturday evening performances at 8:00 p.m.
  • Sunday evening performances at 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. is a special open captioned performance

Tickets for FLASHDANCE – THE MUSICAL range from $35 - $90 (includes parking and facility fees) and will go on sale Sunday, December 7 at all Ticketmaster locations, by phone at 1-800-982-2787, online at www.ticketmaster.com or www.broadwayindetroit.com. Tickets will also be available starting Monday, December 8 at the Fisher Theatre box office.

Tickets for the Open Captioned performance may be purchased in person at the Fisher Theatre box office or by phone at 313-872-1000, ext. 0. A limited number of premium seats will be available through Ticketmaster and at the box office.
