Restaurant review and GIVEAWAY: Patty Burger (Orion Twp., MI) serves up more than just burgers
*Disclosure: I was provided with a free meal at Patty Burger in exchange for this review. The opinions expressed here, however, are my own.
When I received a blogger invite for Patty Burger, I immediately looked it up on Yelp, because I had never heard of it before. It's located in Orion Township, about 5 minutes away from Great Lakes Crossing, which may have explained it (I live about 20 minutes south, in Clawson). I was intrigued and immediately said yes to the invite.
The interior is rather modern, and gives off an upscale vibe compared to most burger places. We went on a Monday night and it was pretty empty, but the restaurant does do some great happy hour deals during the week.
We started off by photographing a few of their meals and menu items, including their milkshakes (which can be made alcoholic! I tried the chocolate milkshake, with vodka, and it was delicious), wraps, and salads.
For my burger, I ordered the Bacon Me Crazy ($9.50), which includes sauteed mushrooms and onions, applewood-smoked bacon, cheddar, and bacon jam. I'll be honest and say that although the burger was tasty, it wasn't anything mind-blowing. You have a choice of white, wheat, or a gluten-free bun, too.
My second choice burgers were the Pico de Patty (pico de gallo, cheese sauce, and bacon, $8.50) and the Miss Swiss (swiss cheese and mushrooms, $6.75), so when I return to Patty Burger I'll have to try one of those.
The burgers are not cheap, but they come with a variety of toppings, or you can add your own for an additional upcharge.
Where Patty Burger excels is actually in its side dishes and its desserts and milkshakes ($3.99). Our group ordered a few different sides and we all ended up sampling all of them. I ordered onion rings ($2.99) with my burger and it's a huge portion—two people could definitely share an order. They come with some sort of chipotle ranch dipping sauce, and I don't normally like ranch, but it was delicious.
Blogger friends ordered the fresh-cut sweet potato chips ($1.49), which is tossed in the restaurant's cinnamon chipotle spice, and cheese curds ($5.99, on the appetizer menu). I had never tried cheese curds before and I ended up really liking them.
The star of the appetizers and sides for me, though, was definitely the fried pickles ($5.99)—upon first bite, I discovered that they had used bread and butter pickles, and the combination of salty and sweet was amazing.
I was also able to photograph the Stacked Patty, which at $14.99 is gigantic: it comes with two burger patties; Swiss, Provolone, and Cheddar cheeses; sauteed onions and mushrooms; fresh avocado slices; bacon; and Patty sauce.
For dessert, we tried the Patty's Sweet Bites ($4.99), which also were one of the highlights of my meal—they are sweet, fried dough balls (similar to Monkey Bread) and are served with raspberry, caramel, and chocolate dipping sauces. These were fantastic and I wish I had more room in my stomach for them, at that point!
I wish Patty Burger was a bit closer to me, but I'll definitely be back at some point. Although the prices do run a little high (burgers are $6.75-$9.50, not including the Stacked Burger), the food is quite tasty. There's also a full-service bar if you want to make your dinner into more of a "date night," and the paper menus at the store indicated that they have a date night promo (2 burgers, fries, and drinks), although it didn't have a price listed.
Patty Burger is located at 4749 Baldwin Rd., Orion Charter Township, MI, 48359, and can be reached at pattyburger.com or at (248) 499-6674.
