I consider myself a "techie" of sorts - I love playing around with the latest and greatest technology. However, my current phone with - let's call them "Provider X" - is a bit elderly; the phone I use day to day is the Samsung Galaxy s3. When I first purchased it in October 2012, it was so fast ... now, not so much.
My parents and I are on a family plan together, and have been thinking about leaving Provider X for a while now - I don't have unlimited texting (gasp! Rare in 2015) and it's about time for a new phone anyways.
I headed over to Walmart to check out their phones, but I didn't want to be tied down to a plan this time - Provider X's plans last for two years, usually. At the same time, I didn't want to spend $600+ for a phone, either.
What do you think of when you hear the phrase "prepaid plan"? Prepaid plans often get a bad rep for having slow data, a spotty network, or less of a phone selection.
However, T-Mobile is changing the game by introducing their Simply Prepaid plans, which run on T-Mobile's 4G LTE network. What's awesome about Simply Prepaid is that you pay per month; I purchased two $40 credit cards at Walmart, and am now covered for two months of service.
I chose the Samsung Avant phone, for $149 - it's a great deal, plus Samsung is a brand I trust.
In the past, most people I knew had a 2+ year contract with a provider. Now, a lot of my friends use prepaid, because it's much easier and you don't have to be tied down with a contract.
The best part? You get unlimited talk and text - ie, I'm no longer held hostage to Provider X's 500 texts per month!
The first thing I had to do when I set up my new phone, of course, was install my movie and entertainment apps - my top apps for entertainment fans are Fandango, Google Play Movies, IMDb, and HBO GO:
The phone itself is FAST, which is to be expected since it's new, but the internet itself is also very fast, since you're on T-Mobile's 4G LTE network.
There are also some fun features on the phone that my previous phone did not have - you can use WiFi calling (calling someone over WiFi) if you're connected to the internet that way, or even texting over WiFi. The back of the phone also has a leather-like feel to it, which feels nice when holding the phone.
I've been having fun tooling around on the phone this past week, and of course texting all of my friends, now that I have unlimited texting!
What's your favorite entertainment app to use, and why? Also, have you ever tried a prepaid cell phone plan before?

It was pretty easy for me to set up my phone - I signed in with my Google account and the apps from my other phone started to download. To set up the phone itself, you just have to pop the SIM card in, and then call a T-Mobile number or go online to activate it; at that point, T-Mobile will give you your new phone number.
